Sometimes you don’t want or need to use your boat for weeks or months at a time. While this typically happens over winter, you may have to store your boat at any point of the year. Here are some options for safely and securely storing your boat, no matter the reason.

Rent a Marina Slip

If you live near a local marina on the Atlantic coast or on a favorite lake or river, you can rent a slip to store your boat right on the water. This option has the benefit of keeping your boat ready and waiting for you when you want to use it. One drawback is if you want to use your boat in multiple locations; another is that the weather can still affect your boat outside.

Store Outside on a Trailer

You can opt to store your boat on its trailer outdoors. However, avoid parking the boat in your driveway with the hitch facing the street, as this makes it easy for someone to steal. If you can, store your trailered boat behind a tall fence in your backyard instead.

Keep Your Boat Indoors

If you have a storage shed or garage with a locking door on your property, this is a great place to store your boat because it keeps it sheltered from weather damage and protected from theft and pest infestation. You can also investigate dry storage options at a local marina, where your boat will be kept indoors in a secure facility.
